Is Your Brewery Ready for Daylight Saving Time?

It only makes sense: well-rested workers are safe and productive workers.

But as most of us know, the feeling of not being rested is very common—particularly for small-business owners like brewery professionals. Brewery staff may also struggle to establish a consistent sleep pattern due to special events and long brew days.

Sleep deprivation will be a particularly common topic this month. We’ll soon “spring forward” and lose an hour of sleep thanks to the start of Daylight Saving Time begins.

Is there a silver lining to this cloud? You bet: it’s actually very straightforward to limit the effects of the time change.

How to Help Your Workers Through Daylight Saving Time

  • Each night before Daylight Saving Time begins, go to bed 15-20 minutes earlier than the night before, catching up on that lost hour of sleep in advance.
  • Go to bed at your usual time on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Get up at your usual time Sunday morning.
  • If you nap to catch up on lost sleep, make sure to limit the nap to a half hour or so. That will make it easier to get a good night’s sleep later.
